Edgar Gärtner

Edgar Ludwig Gärtner, born in 1949, studied Biology and Political Science at the Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University of Frankfurt/Germany and Mediterranean Ecology in Marseilles/France. In the eighties I was working for the French magazine “Science & Vie”. Between 1989 and 1992 I was responsible editor of an environmental newsletter for private companies. Between 1993 and 1996 I was editor in chief in the German branch of World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). I left this organisation when climate policy began to replace traditional conservation requests. Since then I’m working as independent editor and consultant on risk evaluation and sustainability issues especially for chemicals companies and manufacturers associations as well as for specialised magazines in Germany and Switzerland. From 2005 to 2007 Director of CNE’s Environment Forum in Brussels. Blogger on ef-magazin.de and the European Institut for Climate ad Energy (EIKE).

Edgar Gärtner is author of several books. His last publications are “Vorsorge oder Willkür”, Cologne 2006 (sponsored by the German Association PVC & Environment (AgPU) and “Öko-Nihilismus”, Jena 2007, a fundamental criticism of political ecology. An entirely revised hard cover editon of this book was published in 2012 under the title „Öko-Nihilismus 2012. Selbstmord in Grün“.

Actually: Preparing a follow up essay with the title „The Suicide Program. The Political Theology of Nothing.“ Suggestions are always welcome.

Memberships: European Institute for climate and energy (EIKE) and Friedrich A. Hayek Society (Berlin).
